Berberine is an alkoloid present in a number of plants incuding barberry, tree tumeric, oregon grape, goldenseal, and goldenthread.
In recent years, the botanical extract berberine has been pushed from relative obscurity to the forefront of nutritional medicine.* Over a third of the approximately 2,800 studies on berberine listed on PubMed were published in the last 5 years. This important plant extract demonstrates significant benefits for glucose metabolism, maintenence of healthy lipid levels, insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular support, weight management, gastrointestinal health, immune function and cognitive support.
One of the most celebrated studies on berberine compared taking 500 milligrams (mg) two to three times daily for three months with the diabetes drug metformin. Berberine was able to control blood sugar and lipid metabolism as effectively as metformin, with researchers describing berberine as a “potent oral hypoglycemic agent.”

- Metformin NO, Berberine YES
I was on Metformin when diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was told by a friend who happens to be a nurse that she would never take Metformin as it is a dangerous medication. She recomended Berberine. I stopped the Metformin and have been on Berberine for a year. My numbers are normal. I have told others and they switched and also have normal numbers. This is the best decision I ever made.
- No Longer Pre-Diabetic
I have been taking Berberine for 2 months now and my doctor has just told me I am no long pre-diabetic and for the first time in 15 years I have been able to lose weight. I am so greatful for this wonderful product.
- I am going on the beliefe that it is helping to lower my blood sugars!
I am grain free and sugar free, and on 1500 mg of metformin a day, but I am still taking two caps of this a day and my blood sugars are coming down. I also like that it has a bit of an anti-viral and antibiotic properties. I wish there was more than sixty in the bottle! And I'd like some more information included on the web site regarding dosage suggestions, "at least" and "not more than" sort of thing.
- Recently diagnosed with Diabetes
Since I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, I decided to try the Berberine 500mg capsules. Diabetes runs in my family, and I knew that since I had just been diagnosed that my chances of not having to go on anything pharmaceutical would have a better chance of keeping my blood sugar levels in check, if I tried something right now instead of later. The information on Berberine seemed like a great option, and since taking Berberine 500mg twice a day, and nothing else, my numbers are in check.
