Natural sourced Vitamin E (d - alpha-tocopherol) is derived from natural plant sources. In contrast, synthetic Vitamin E (dl - alpha-tocopherol), is derived from petrochemicals. Natural vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects fats from damage. Cell membranes are composed of fats and vitamin E is the best protector of cell membranes. This is achieved by preventing free radicals from oxidizing cell membranes, which prevents them from becoming rancid. Vitamin E is needed in increased amounts by those with a “fatty liver”, when there is an accumulation of unhealthy oxidized fats in the liver cells.
